The Spanish football season got off to quite the dramatic start for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Real Madrid superstar came in as a substitute against Barcelona in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup, and he made an impact right away.

Ronaldo scored a fantastic goal, taking the ball down the left side on his own and blasting it past two defenders from the top of the net to break a 1-1 tie.

After scoring, Ronaldo went wild with celebration, taking off his shirt and showing off his absolutely shredded six-pack to the world. (Wonder how Ronaldo got so cut? Check out his 21 best Instagram workout moments, and see how he trains for soccer domination.)

But the celebration was short-lived—for Ronaldo, at least.

While Real Madrid ended up winning the match 3-1, Ronaldo’s day was marred by being sent off the pitch. Here's what went down: Ronaldo received two yellow cards for taking off his jersey to celebrate and for a dive, which got him sent off and a 1-game ban, then pushed a referee, which added the rest of the games.

Ronaldo will miss the second-leg match against Barcelona, as well as La Liga matches against Deportivo, Valencia, Levante, and Real Sociedad.

Wonder how he's handling the suspension? Pretty well, so far.

Ronaldo posted a photo on Instagram, showing off his ripped biceps and legs in practice alongside his teammates:
